New Distillation Technology from Indonesia Wins in the US

The needs of the residents in distilling eucalyptus will soon be assisted. This is because a group of researchers from Indonesia has successfully created a practical prototype of an eucalyptus oil distillation machine. It only uses solar cell power, employing tanks and a distillation machine in a mobile setup. The hope is for increased efficiency and productivity. "Residents don't need to take eucalyptus wood to the distillation site, which is far away," said Amanda Julia Isa, a researcher currently working at PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia. He, along with his three friends – Wildan Pradana Yulianto Putra, Anindita Hapsari, and Tasya Safitry – named their team Pondokterang 2.0. The alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Indonesia successfully created a prototype and has tested it on residents in the vicinity of the Research and Development Agency (Balitbang) of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, in one of the villages in Wonosari, Gunung Kidul. The prototype was also included in the competition by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) held in Baltimore, United States. There they managed to secure second place in the humanitarian project category. Pondokterang 2.0 chose eucalyptus as its research object because of the desire to reveal community empowerment projects.
