Technology will Sweep Away Those Who are Not Ready for Change.
Telkom University (Tel-U) held a graduation ceremony for 1,267 graduates. In front of the graduates, the Rector of Telkom University, Mochamad Ashari, spoke about technological developments, including the "fever" of the game Pokemon Go."The choice is to either adapt to change or decide to be swept away by the tsunami of change," he said."But like a tsunami wave, technological developments have swept away players who were not ready to change," he said. He exemplified that various transportation companies are threatened in their business existence due to the emergence of transportation service applications that connect passengers with rental vehicle drivers and ride-sharing services. The rector continues to motivate the graduates to uphold the tradition of excellence established by previous alumni. One of the achievements recorded by alumni and students of Tel-U is the Pondok Terang pilot project. This project consists of the design and installation of solar cells, streetlight construction, internet access, and a wireless sensor network for the disaster prevention system in Mapur Island, Riau Islands, Indonesia. The project consists of Amanda Julia Isa (a Telecommunications Engineering undergraduate who graduated in April 2016), Muhammad Ibnu Muharrom (an MBTI undergraduate from the 2013 cohort), Masriza Kurniawan (a Telecommunications Engineering undergraduate from the 2012 cohort), and one of their colleagues, Dewi Mariam. As a result of this success, the team has been invited to a humanitarian workshop that will be held in Portland, Oregon, United States, this coming October.
